Bones
Bones is at Jim’s bed side looking at the rag doll; that is friend now. He wonders if the boy will get out up of this one.
After Spock does his Vulcan ritual, he rounds the bed, waiting for something to happen. Bones is totally out of his mind, that’s for certain. Why the hell he allowed that green-blooded bastard to mess with the kid’s head, he doesn’t know – must be insanity, and Jim is the one to blame for it. He is really worried during the time Spock stays in there with Jim.
The boy is a force of nature, a force of chaos and order. You can’t go against that nature, so you tag along. Fix the kid when he needs it, save that instrument of nature- the instrument of the universe or whatever James Tiberius Kirk is meant to do - and you follow along, and go insane in the mean time. What more can he do? He is only a country doctor.
And in the minutes that seem to take forever, he sees a bit, the patterns of a mind in the med scanner of the biobed; a faint light in the instruments. Bones rushes to Jim’s side, and there he can see a movement in the body of the kid; hear a name that escapes from his lips…
“Spock…”
Everything is really faint, and Bones wonders why the name is not his own, or Jim’s brother -but the Kid is at home, again. And McCoy will kill him as soon he wakes up, because he terrified the Doctor to death; but that will be tomorrow. Because this night he will sleep at last, knowing that James Kirk, the medium of Mother Nature, is safe again and unleashed upon the universe. His work is done, and now the kid’s begins.
Kirk
Jim feels like he is very far away. The last thing he remembers is the ship and calling Spock, and then nothing.
Nothing, like life is made of emptiness, dark and void. Jim doesn’t know how much time, has passed, until he feels Spock in his mind. But he isn’t himself, in an odd sense. He decides to follow the pallid light, and the brilliance that Spock is, and he comes back.
Jim is so tired, so tired, that the only name that comes to his lips is “Spock”.
.....
Jim opens his eyes, and tries to sit up– only to feel a monumental headache; like the coffee-and-studying headaches from his Academy days. He decides to lay back down on the pillow, and watch his surroundings.
Everything is white. Obviously he is in the sickbay, like always. He sees a beautiful blond nurse, who is asking for help; but Spock is nowhere to be found. Odd.
Then everything goes down hill, and the headache won’t let him keep his eyes open. He hears Bones’ voice.
“Jim, Jim, are you all right?”
“I have a terrible headache, Bones.”
Jim can feel the hum of the scanner over him, twice; and a hand on his elbow, reassuring him.
“Your readings are normal, Kid, don’t make me feel so worried again, do you hear me? Or I will really kill you first! Can you hear me, boy?”
Jim is about to respond, when he opens his eyes- and he closes his mouth again.
Is he on the twilight zone, or something? He knows that he already has a discount ticket for that, but the guy next to him, with a really worrisome look in his face, couldn’t be… he can’t be Leonard McCoy. But he is; at least his voice is…
“Bones?” Jim can feel Bones’ gruff and tense hand on his shoulder; like his friend always does when he really doesn’t know how Kim made it for another day.“Are you, Bones?”
“And who are expecting, kid? The Federation’s Ballet? Off course I’m me!”
Jim isn’t sure of anything at this point- so, at the times he is stabbed with a hypo, he decides to follow his body and faint again.
When he recovers, he hears Bones yelling to someone in the vicinity. He opens his eyes again, and finds himself in the same room, with the same blond, and the same young guy who claims to be and totally sounds like his old friend, Leonard McCoy who is now there, holding his elbow. But he couldn’t be! He has brown eyes, and everybody knows about McCoy’s baby blues.
He understands now, that maybe his ticket to Kansas; expired long ago, because he is in the twilight zone to stay. Jim thinks that he’s probably really lost it – perhaps this is all a bad dream – but he decides to play along, and ask for what he really needs:
“Where is Spock?” Spock would know what to do.
“Spock is on the bridge, and he asked me to call him back if you wake up. But you really want to see him right away, Jim?”
“Yes Bones, I want to see him, now.”
The guy who claims to be Bones, seems a little disturbed, but he goes to the communicator and calls the bridge.
A short time after, a young Vulcan appears. He is really a beautiful guy, but sure thing isn’t his Spock; because he is still alone in his mind. Maybe the Universe is taking the bill to him, after all or something, because, if this guy is Spock, why he can’t feel him?
Perhaps the Universe is putting him on for real.
Bones.
Bones sees Spock and takes his arm.
“Before you see Jim, we need to talk”.
Spock stares at Bones’ hands, and he shrugs them off.
“Spock, there is something wrong with him”
“Doctor, I admire your ability to state the obvious, as the Captain is on the verge of death; so there is likely something very wrong indeed.”
“Green blooded devil- I’m talking about right now, and Jim is not like himself. He looks at me, like he is looking at a stranger; and is calling for you like you are his a lifeline or something”
“Doctor I believe you are aware that confusion is typical, in these cases”
“Are you sure you didn’t do something more to him while you are doing that magic trick?
Tell me that you didn’t add a link, or something!?”
“Doctor, are you suggesting that I am amoral? Linking an unwilling mind would be like a rape, in your culture. But I must concede that it is my first time melding with a human mind that is not my mother’s, and I have never used this deeper level, before. However the Captain’s chances of survival are low at that point and I was given medical clearance to proceed with the meld. If an accidental link is created, we may go to New Vulcan at a later date to contact a healer, and dissolve it. But I believe these consequences are better than losing the Captain.”
“I will take your word for it- but there is something wrong. You must to try to find what it is, Spock”
Spock looks as stoic as ever, in Leonard’s opinion. He follows the Vulcan; and is very worried for this unusual interest of Jim’s. They had been friends for almost five years, and the green blooded bastard almost kills the kid twice.
Jim is not the same at all. Every damn time Jim looks at him, it is like he is trying to find someone else. He wonders if the infamous mind meld worked, or maybe the damage in Jim’s brain is more severe - after all his brain waves patterns changed a bit; but that is an acceptable outcome of his trauma.
Why the kid has faith in Spock all of the sudden -that is something more to worry about. Better ask the green blooded, guy before he leaves, whether that mumbo jumbo had an after effect for sure; like joining minds or something.
Bones is in his office and calls Doctor M’Benga asking for more info about that mind meld, and to ask him to check on Jim and Spock pronto. Bones feels that something is wrong, very wrong, about this whole affair.
Kirk
They reach the bed and Jim stares at the young Vulcan; trying to identify him as his bondmate.
“Captain, it is good to see that you are awake. Please believe me that the meld we shared, it is not a transgression. I did it because we are running out of time, and you are lost in a distant corner of your mind. My only intent is to bring you to the surface, because it is apparent that you could not do it for yourself. There are no other logical alternatives. Going to a healer is not an option at that moment.”
Jim only hears the “Captain” part- the entire affair is too surreal. Jim tries to looks for familiarity.
“Spock, we are in Sickbay, you don’t need to call me Captain in Sickbay, with Bones here. You know that, after all this years- Bones is immune to us”.
Spock raises an eyebrow, and Leonard is very surprised. All of this is… awkward.
“Captain, it is true that you have asked me to call you Jim; in informal, off duty occasions. But I am still on duty, and the good Doctor has not known me for ‘years’. Even a year is not a number we have reached yet.” Spock turns his head towards McCoy.
“Doctor McCoy, do you think, the Captain has suffered after effect of his trauma?”
“Spock, everything in this is unprecedented. He is almost empty, before your magical voodoo, and now he is awake, and his readings are almost normal- but he just seems a little out of place. I don’t think he is crazy or anything, but maybe he just needs time. After all, he suffered a really traumatic experience”.
“That is logical. Please continue with your care and tests, and keep me informed.”
Jim couldn’t believe it.
“Hey guys, I’m here, remember? I can hear you.”Jim gave them both a wary eye. “I’m not crazy – okay, maybe I’m just in the twilight zone – no, Spock, can I talk to you in private? Bones, can you give us some privacy?”
The doctor leaves, really worried Jim asks himself, Why?
...
Jim has mixed feeling about this man. He is so young. But in his deep brown eyes, filled with the emotion his face doesn’t show; he recognizes Spock.
“Spock, I need you to guide me in here.”
“If I can be of assistance, Captain.”
“Jim, remember, Jim. Spock, maybe I’m a little confused, but I want to know exactly where I am. I know this sounds illogical, I know that eyebrow of yours - but please indulge me, What is the date?
“We are currently in the year 2260. We are in the end of our first year into the five year mission.”
“The first year?... So we are playing chess?”
“Do you play chess, Captain?”
“Oh, this is bad.”
So this man and he are nothing; nothing except Captain and first officer. Maybe friends to be, maybe some flirting, but he has no bond with the love of his life. He is alone. Jim always hates that part of his life, being alone and afraid, hopelessly in love with his first officer, even if this version of himself know how much he needs this Spock, yet. It is sure thing he will be happy that this period of his own life could be short.
How did he travel to the past? When this happens? Is it an accident? When?
And no one sees him differently; because he must look as young as them?
Wait a moment – this Spock says it is 2260. Jim doesn’t get the enterprise until 2264; so he isn’t 28 yet, and he has the Enterprise and Spock?
This is really weird.
“We are in an alternative reality? “ He says out loud without thinking.
“Yes Captain, maybe your memories are getting better. Do you want a summary of the facts that bring us in to our reality, Jim?”
“Yes, please. Talking to you is helping me a lot.”
Spock makes a quick review of the events of ‘The Narada incident’; from his father’s death at his birth to the Vulcan destruction and the existence of the other, older Spock in the new colony.
Spock also explains the actual mission, and everything he knows about his disappearance and his attack. In other words, he doesn’t know how, but he is occupying the young body of an alternate him, but his Spock exists in this time line. The goal is clear: He needs to see his Spock, and he will make it to see him; even if he must work sometime like his alternate self, and maybe seek the help of this younger Spock.
“Spock, you really help me, now I’m somewhat more center. But I have real problems with my memory; maybe as you suggested I need to see a healer, Maybe Spock in the colony could help me?”
“I don’t think seeking my alternate self could really help you, Jim. We are in a diplomatic impasse right now, so we cannot go to New Vulcan for a better treatment for you, without the treaty the Federation seeks. We must finish our mission first; and this will takes us time.”
“That is not a problem if you assist me, and Bones lets me go. I can study all we know about this people, and get the treaty for the rebels and the government and ours in no time. I think it is not so good if everyone knows about my mental health. The moral in this ship relies a lot in my leadership, so I want to makes clear that only you and McCoy if it is necessary, know about my real state until we can make me whole again. Is this acceptable Mr. Spock?”
“Yes, Captain, that is acceptable. However, the Doctor may not clear you for duty in a timely manner.”
“I know, but he knows I will be out of sickbay without his clearance before the time he wants I stay in here, so we can make a deal. How much time do we have?”
“Eight days, four hours and 50 minutes before the end of the two weeks the admiral Komack gives us, sir”
“In that case I’ll make it out and ready to do diplomatic duties in three days”
Jim tries to get out of Sickbay the next morning. Bones won’t let him, but he agreed to let him access his files and data of the current mission. So he starts to work on the present mission and with his personal data. This is difficult to accept. His mother married a bastard and he is an abused child before Tarsus IV. He went to the academy with Bones and Uhura? This is really odd - Spock programmed the Kobayashi Maru. The only good thing about this reality is that he and Spock knows each other earlier in life. That has another problem for later thinking. His body isn’t his own. This Spock isn’t his, and if his Spock doesn’t have a solution he will be young and Spockless! He can live without Spock. But his bondmate is out there, and he must find him. Even if he will have to give back this body to its owner at the end. Wondering about that, where is the owner? Jim can’t sense him at all. Even using his sixth sense he isn’t getting any vibration of anyone more in his head or heart except himself. He needs to center and he needs Spock, his Spock.
Jim decides to put himself to work. Working under pressure and trying to get out of sickbay is his thing.
So he must concentrate on the mission at hand and resolve all this mess as quickly as possible.
----
Jim is ready to do politics in a day, but it takes him two to left sickbay; because Bones is always Bones in everyplace, and he always find a new test to take him to or hypo to stab him with. This version of Bones stabs you and it hurts; but Jim knows Bones is really concerned for his health, Leonard decides that he had a lot of lacunar amnesia; when in reality Jim has no recollection of facts he never lived before. But Lacunar amnesia it is
He uses the day off to familiarize himself with this new Enterprise – with the new faces, the old faces that are new, and everything this new world that grew very broken because of the time crash of 'the Narada incident', and a universe without Vulcan as a strong pillar of the Federation. A Starfleet who lost a lot of brilliant young people and is more insecure than ever with the shadow of the Romulan and Klingon Empire in the chase for the domination of the quadrant.
Leonard finally gives him clearance, but he stays at his quarters a day more without an actual shift. So he takes personal reunions with the chief of each department to know them and to find the status about the Omega situation. This also serves him to cheer the morale of the crew - he sees in their faces that they are really concerned about his recovery, or the possibility of a new commander.
The final step is to appoint Spock to his quarters; to establish the plan for tomorrow’s meeting with the two factions of the Omega people, with them as mediators.
This is the hard part. For Jim it is very difficult not to reach for him, to find no recognition at all in the love of his life; even if it is an alternate version of him.
Jim for the first time in these days goes to a mirror to examine his new self. He is devastatingly gorgeous, but so alien at the same time. The eyes so blue; even more than Bones’s eyes in his universe. His hair is strange too; not as curly as it use to be. He really looks a lot as his father, when he is younger. He saw some holo pictures of him when he is at the academy. This surely is bad in his relationship with his alternate mother, to lose her husband and have someone so painfully like him in her son must be very hard; and worse to his young counterpart who doesn’t understand a thing. It is good to know that he is himself in every reality too. That this boy finds his way to the stars even after so much loss and sadness.
The comm. Rings, and Jim sits at his desk and lets the young Vulcan enter. He can take away a painful sigh while the door hushes, and the young version of Spock come in. It is really painful to see him and not to feel anything, to act like nothing happens in this reality. Even if he knows his poker face is legendary, he knows he couldn’t hide his true self to this man.
“Captain, I’m please to see you are well”
“Jim, Spock. We are not on the bridge, and I’m really not on duty ‘till tomorrow. So I’m only Jim, understood?”
“Very well, Jim” It sounds so distant; and his Spock is always so sexy saying his name. Maybe this one is too young yet.
“Sit down Spock and we can make our plans for tomorrow, Do you want some tea?, I will take a coffee for good measure.”
Spock nods so Jim asks the servo for Spock’s favorite tea and his Colombian blend of coffee. Jim really misses the mingled odors of the Vulcan tea with a little bit of Jasmine, and the strong coffee together in the air, but reality is in front of him.
“Thanks, Cap…Jim.” Jim has forgotten about asking this Spock about his tea preferences, so it is no wonder the Vulcan brow rises in surprise.
“How do you know Captain what kind of tea I prefer, if I can ask?”
Jim grins at him a little. ”My abilities of observation are better than you thought, I believe.”
Jim keeps his trademark smile in remembering; that he must not know so much about this person, this is not his Spock. But apparently it passes, as Spock sips his tea with appreciation.
The meeting ends without another incident, with Jim trying hard not to let slip his knowledge and to be polite as he never is with Spock. They decide how to deal with the natives, and several alternatives and solutions for the inconveniences they could encounter in the negotiations.
Spock seems really pleased as he goes out the door; but he turns back a little.
“Jim, I’m very pleased to see that your colorful vocabulary it is past, and you can express yourself in a more responsible way”.
Oops!, Jim didn’t know in this timeline that he is colorful; so he decides to correct himself before talking to Bones again, and run records of the personal logs of this Jim. He indeed has a very colorful vocabulary almost like that of 21st century earth.
The next day starts with apologies from the Omegan government, apologies from the rebel faction and more apologies. That is good and all, because the negotiations are smooth with Jim as the mediator. Both factions make amends in their planetary constitution, and these changes are really good, because they are more in sync with the Federation resolves about rights and values.
After a very boring diplomatic dinner, they leave to their accommodations in the palace; because early in the morning is set the beginning of the Federation agreement and the official entry of the Omegans into the Federation.
The assigned dormitories are for him and Spock, with a common room and two separated beds. The amusing part is that Bones and Uhura will have to share a similar accommodation, because everything is about rank and nobility here, not about gender. Jim really finds this version of Uhura very close to how Leonard is. He wonders what’s happen to her in this reality for her to be to be so overly-fierce. Where did the sweet Uhura go? They are both professionals and capable, but this one has no so much confidence, and feels like she needs to prove herself in a world filled with men. That is really strange. The other strange thing is the Uhura-hating-Spock vibe he receives, and Spock looks like he feels a little guilty about it. In Uhura’s gaze Jim finds out that the girl hates him, but she hates Spock more now and she feels betrayed. Jim wonders if Spock and she are an item, because he feels almost jealousy from her.
But now comes the trouble - Jim will be on guard in the night to not try to get up, and jump the Vulcan. Because really this Spock is as beautiful and graceful as his own; so he tries with all his might not to stare at him when he leaves the toilet in a delicate fabric PJ, which really is worse than a naked body.
Spock starts his meditation, as is his usual routine, after Jim pretends to fall sleep. It is really hard to know that this Spock is not his. He misses Spock so much that his heart aches, and he even has a physical pain.
So he tries to content himself with watching Spock meditate, as he tries to fall asleep for real. His sleep is restless, and he finds himself crying out Spock’s name when he awakes. Spock is by his side asking him what it is, and Jim can’t find the words to express his problems. So he decides to use his amnesia as an excuse, and asks Spock about going to New Vulcan to see a healer.
“Captain, I think that could be wise; because you are not yourself yet, and a healer is more prepared than myself, and could offer a better service and guarantee your health.”
“Spock I’m really grateful for your service already; you saved me. But I know I need to go to the colony and find myself. I want to meet your alternate version too. I’m intrigued, since I don’t recall the experience in Delta Vega”.
“I believe you don’t need to pursue my counterpart’s company. He is from another place, and maybe in your state it wouldn’t be advisable.”
That is new - Spock feels jealous about himself? Jim really hopes this could end with two sets of himself, so this Spock has his own Jim.
“I will take your advice into account, but maybe he can help. Because he saw my mind before the accident, so maybe he could offer an insight of my problem. Don’t you think it’s logical?”
Spock‘s face gets somber. He really doesn’t want his Jim to have any interaction with the older counterpart. Jim can’t help himself.
“At least you can vocalize your real problem with the guy. Maybe are you jealous of him?”
“Being Jealous is an emotion that I don’t possess Captain, I think it could be good for you to resume your rest, as I will find mine.”
Jim could not let a grin out to this young Spock, as he must control his nature around the poor Vulcan. He is not yours Jim.
Spock
The Captain really is fascinating. Spock admired him before, but these days he is more grown up, acting like a Captain should. He works harder and better, and is more efficient and somehow... more pleasing. His features always are pleasing, but his confidence and grace are new and welcomed.
He is flawless in the negotiations as a mediator, like he is able to perceive the problems and the solutions before they actually come up to the open. So in one day all the preliminary discussions of the constitution are finished, and in the morning the voting is the only thing left. In the following afternoon, they can start the negotiation of the treaty with the Federation.
They have to share accommodations again. Somehow he feels more at ease about this than before.
After he goes for the sonic bath, he finds that the Captain is almost sleeping. He takes his usual posture, and enters into meditation.
After that he decides to rest. Jim suddenly cries his name, and Spock knows because of Doctor McCoy about the sleeping disorders of the Captain called, “Nightmares”. So he reaches him, to make him certain that it is only in his mind. The Captain wakes up and starts talking about his amnesia, and his need to go to his older counterpart. The sole mention of him makes his pulse increase and his respiration harder - interesting. Spock wonders what this alien flame in his side is.
In the morning the vote is uneventful, and afterwards here is a tiresome diplomatic lunch. Then they proceed with the treaty for the Omegans to enter the Federation.
James Kirk behaves impeccably. And when the Universal translator malfunctions and Lt. Uhura has to translate live, they accomplish almost all of their agenda.
Tomorrow will be the difficult day; The Federation wants a military post, in order to have the Romulan Empire within sight.
So after dinner, the Captain and he retired for the evening.
Spock finishes his cleaning, and starts his meditation. But today he seems to have problems concentrating. He is aware of the smallest moves or muffled sounds from the sleeping Captain.
He tries some techniques, and accomplishes a light meditative state. But finally Spock gives up.
The light of the two moons of Omega V is paled and bright and falls over Jim’s face. The resting form of his Captain is really pleasurable, and he finds himself compelled to hold his gaze over the Captain’s features a little longer. The angle of his back, the strong thighs and legs - James Tiberius Kirk really is a captivating individual.
After awhile Spock feels relaxed; almost like he had prolonged meditation focus on the Captain, so he could accomplish the rest he needed. This whole affair is really illogical, but in a way pleasant.
…………
The next day finally arrives, the negotiations for the treaty with the Federation.
The negotiations are intense. The S’craik-thi have accepted dillitum mining for the Federation; in return to the entrance into the Federation, and to help achieve improvements in their technology, cultural and university degree interchanges, and work in study programs witch match with Federation’s ones.
But they have a serious problem before Star Fleet is satisfied. The S’craik-thi doesn’t want Federation militia on their planet, under any circumstances. They feel threatened, that their government could be an overthrown by the Federation in any case. Any attempt to bring up the subject to try and explain to them this could never occur that the Federation only wants their protection in case of an advance with the Romulan Empire, causes a new outburst.
The Omegan people don’t want a military base on their home world, period. This problem moves the negotiations for another day.
That night they make the dinner short. The Captain and Spock comeback to the ship to gather all the data each team has in order to reach a speedy solution. The Federation is ten days out of reach for a communication, and ten days extends past their deadline. They must attempt a creative solution for the next day.
The Captain seems preoccupied, but you can see his mind is already looking for solutions. The staff meeting takes place 15 minutes after their arrival.
The Captain sits and inspects all the faces in the room, as he clears his thoughts.
“Gentlemen, we will start from the scratch with the reports from each of your departments are sendin you. We will analyze them in consideration with our exact orders, and then try to revise them with issues important to the Omegans.”
This statement causes a lot of chitchat between the members in the room.
“Captain, do you think is really necessary see our orders again?” asks Lt. Chekov.
“Yes, Mr. Chekov. Because our approach is the wrong one so we must start from the beginning, and find our mistake, to find a new approach.”
Everybody look s at each other’s faces. The Captain calls Spock out.
“Mr. Spock, explains our orders; especially with the matter at hand.”
Spock explains all the orders they received from Admiral Komack. The Captain then takes the lead, and find out that in any part of the actual order a base ‘In the Planet’ is asked, but a military base in the Omegan solar system.
Then Spock and Uhura state all the objections the S’craik-thi exposed in the negotiation that very day.
Then Jim asks the Sociologist Borges to make his report of the people, and asks for McCoy and Lt. Noel to find out about the psyche of the Omegans.
The Omegans called home their planet, and the interior planets of their system. The two outside planets K’trich and Krethor are not consider part of their home, because of the null value of icy planets and their long distance. So even though these planets are actually part of their solar system, the ownership has little importance to them except for a little space station which acts as a scientific outpost.
The solution is clear then. But how to form the question, and bring the issue to the table, is the next step. The Captain listens to all the ideas of the section chiefs, and then after three hours, calls the session to a close, and send his staff to rest.
The Captain decides to beam back to the planet, and end the tactical planning with Spock in their assigned room.
Spock is more impress by the minute with the Captain’s resolutions. They talk for an hour about the better approach for tomorrow’s negotiations and then at the end of the night, Kirk gives his trademark smile who iluminate his eyes, before they settle for bed.
Jim takes a long bath. He explains that it is an important human custom to achieve relaxation. So Spock decides to use the time to meditate. He is getting out of his meditative state, when he opens his eyes and finds the Captain only with a towel, looking at him.
“Captain, if I can be of assistance?”
“Oh, no, Spock. I was only recalling where I left my Pjs. I didn’t want to distract your meditation, I’m sorry.”
“You do not need to give your excuses, Captain. I was ending my meditative cycle at the moment, so no intrusion is made.”
“Of course, Spock. by the way, you forget to call me Jim, remember?”
“Jim, do you need my assistance in any way? If not I will take my turn in the sonic shower.”
“Not really. I will find my PJs and change while you are in the bathroom. Don’t worry about me.”
“Then I will not.”
The Captain, Jim acts like he was getting caught into something. Spock has to contain the forming curve of his lips at his display. Then Spock put his attention on himself, he is still staring shamefully at his Captain’s bare chest.
Jim smiles at him again. Spock nods at him, and enters the bathroom.
Kirk
Nothing like a hot bath to feel better. Everything about this negotiation with a new alien civilization is tiresome, but fun at the same time. It is good to have a young body in order to work better and faster to find solutions.
Jim never liked diplomacy when he was younger, but he really appreciated it with time. Trying to communicate with other cultures is always fun. But the intricacies of the sociologic and psychology structure where mind challenging, like a good game of poker.
When he starts to get pruney and wrinkly, he decides to leave the bath and try to find his PJs; which weren’t in the bathroom, but probably in the room. This happens because Jim really never cares for any PJs in the first place.
But he is obliged in thinking of them now since he is in the same room of not-his Spock. He leaves the bathroom on tiptoes, but the incense invading the room is his doom. The place smells like home, and Spock is there in the dark. He feels so compel to sit in front of him only watching him, hoping he is with his Spock.
Finally he makes Spock open his eyes. That is not his idea, but Spock is almost playful. He totally sees a little not smile on Spock’s lips- so distracting, yet so familiar and so no-good.
When Spock leaves, he finds his PJs and goes to bed and to sleep. He has work tomorrow. He must charm an insect society. And then he can go where his real home is; his home where Spock is, and always will be.
At the end of the next day, all the papers are signed, and all the parties involved are satisfied. The Federation post will be in a star base in the orbit of Krethor, the far outer planet from Sigma Omega Sun. In return the Federation will equip the scientific base in the planet K’trich and the mining operation on the main planet will be done by the Omegan people themselves; with the help of Federation technology and some minor personnel.
The banquet is good, and everybody feels at ease to do small talk, Borges, Vargas and Uhura are really happy exchanging opinions about history. No one needs to marry anyone, and they all will participate in an exchange of ADN material in a laboratory, the next day. A group of scientist will stay, in order to start the technology exchange. Jim can be home soon.
………
This is the last night they stay on the planet, so Jim decides to take a walk to the Governor’s manor, until he reaches a balcony in the garden. It barely seems like night, as the two pallid moons of Omega give off their light, and clearly illuminate all the beautiful flora of the planet.
He feels Bones’ presence and turns his head.
“Bones, it’s good to see you. How are you doing, with your roomie Uhura?”
“I’m okay Jim - how are you? Does the green hobgoblin let you sleep at all?”
Jim smiles to him. ”We’ve had no problems so far. He meditates a lot, and he doesn’t snore like someone I know.”
McCoy looks at him a little cranky with his eyebrow up. But he still seems concerned.
“Bones, I’m really better. But I need to go to New Vulcan and seek a healer. Maybe the other Spock can help me better - he knows more about me.”
“You really think kid, that I will let another Hobgoblin mess with your head again?”
“Bones, I know you did a lot of research, and you know that a healer can help me better. I’m not feeling like myself, and there is a lot I don’t remember at all - like the academy, or my mother and a lot more.”
“Jim, I sent a request for a healer already. It’s just I’m really worried about you. Are you really okay?”
“Leonard. I’m a little confused about everything; but the good thing about this mission is that I had little time to think too much. But I need to go to New Vulcan, that is for certain.”
Leonard reaches Jim’s shoulder, and pats him. “We’ll fix you, kid, I’m certain of it.”
Jim sends a smile to his friend, because in every universe there is a good doctor who is worried about him. This knowledge warms his heart.
“Well my friend, it’s time to sleep.” Jim sighs and turn to leave.
“That is a good advice for you, boy”
Bones stays on the balcony; watching the stars.
Jim arrives to their shared room, and Spock is meditating. So Jim goes for a shower, and then goes to bed. He certainly is exhausted.
The next morning turn out uneventful. They give samples of the flora and fauna from specimen on the Enterprise, and the S’craik-thi take some blood samples of Jim, Spock, and some other humanoids on the ship.
The S’craik-thi gives them the same gift of ADN samples of this world’s flora, fauna and some blood samples of themselves. So the deal is done.
Bones
The days on the Planet are chaotic and worrisome, during the diplomatic table. He really dislikes diplomacy. Leonard had his problems sleeping with a beauty like Uhura in the same room; but they adapted, and talked a lot. In fact if Jim hadn’t worried him so much, the Doctor could have more fun.
The Enterprise takes off to reach a zone with transmission with Star Fleet. Bones was waiting for his message.
At least Jim seems more on his feet after all the diplomacy. But he has a lot of confusion with the places in the ship and the bridge - not in his work - but with remembering directions and faces. Everything is like new, to him.
When they arrive to the zone with interactive communication capability- Leonard receives the message from New Vulcan. They are expecting them in a week, with the personnel to help the Captain recover.
He is on the comm., but the Captain calls him first to the meeting room; because they contacted Star Fleet and they want a full meeting with the results of the diplomatic mission.
Bones leaves M’benga in charge, and goes to the ready room.
It is long and tiresome, but at least the mission with the insects is finished. The officers are dismissed, but Jim and Spock and himself stay for new orders.
Komack give them his regards for good work, and changes places with Pike.
Pike greets them, and congratulates them for the mission. Jim is evidently wondering who Pike is, until Spock salutes him. Jim nods in some kind of acknowledgment.
Pike looks at Jim “So you don’t recognize me. It is true, then.”
Bones takes the lead, “He has lacunar amnesia, Christopher.” He remembers names without faces, and everything work related.
“He did a great job down there, and I know you will be proud. But he doesn’t recognize the bridge or where his quarters are.”
“Hey Bones, I know where my quarters are.”
“After I take you there three times, kid.”
Pike looks at the Vulcan. “Spock, what do you think?”
“As I told you in the communication I sent his work is impeccable, but he lost all his personal memories. He needs to go to New Vulcan and be treated by a healer.”
Pike looks hopefully to his protégée “What do you think, Jim?”
“It is good to know someone is talking to me, thank you very much. I know the procedure Spock tried to save me is not a total success, but I’m certain that a healer could help me. I feel everything is there- Spock saved me then, that is for sure.”
Christopher looks at everyone’s faces, and explains.
“I have a solution for everybody, Starfleet wants to send you on another mission, but this is other one is coded first priority and you are the closest ship. So, your new assignment will be to take an ambassador passenger from Starbase 21 to the Colony of New Vulcan. There will be more details when you arrive there.”
Leonard is really happy to have friends like Pike, who is an Admiral also. He knows he can’t help them all the time, but this mission is a blessing.
“Thanks Admiral,” Bones, says.
“If my life is in danger again, sure thing I ask for your services, Doctor.” Pike smile at Leonard.
“Goodbye boys, take care of my ship.” Christopher says, while his image dissolves.
“Jim, it will be good if you go to sleep right away. You did a lot these past few days.”
“Are you my Mom, Bones?”
“NO, I’m your damn Doctor - and it is an order!”
“Good night Jim, Spock.”
McCoy goes to his quarter for a good sleep.
